Immunisation is important to keep yourself and others protected against relevant diseases that circulate in our community and that could affect your health.

The doctors at Moreland West Medical Centre are well-placed to guide you on which vaccines are important for you and your family, and to talk through any concerns or questions you may have. We provide the following types of vaccinations:

Childhood Immunisation

We are fortunate in Australia to have a wonderful system of childhood immunisations that protect our children against serious illnesses, which once caused so much harm to children. But outbreaks of some diseases still occur and it is very important to ensure that your child receives all the recommended vaccines, at the right time. Our doctors are happy to discuss this with you and answer any questions you may have.

Adult Immunisation

Immunity to serious diseases such as tetanus, ‘shingles’, and pneumonia, can wane over time. The Australian Government Immunisation Program offers booster immunisations for some relevant diseases. Please discuss your immunisation status with your doctor, who can advise you on what is most important for you

Travel Immunisation

If you’re planning to travel overseas to any countries in the developing world, come and see us at least a month before you plan to travel.

Flu Immunisation

Influenza (flu) is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads easily from person to person through coughing, sneezing and close contact. Unlike a cold, symptoms such as fever, sore throat and muscle aches develop suddenly with flu and last about a week. In some cases, severe illness and complications such as pneumonia and bronchitis can develop, which can result in hospitalisation and even death. The flu can also make some existing medical conditions worse.

COVID-19

Despite the fact that COVID-19 vaccines are the best defence we have against serious illness, we recognise that they have become controversial. Doctors at Moreland West Medical Centre recommend that people receive COVID-19 vaccines according to expert guidelines, and we are happy to discuss any concerns you may have about your own health, and the suitability of COVID-19 vaccines for you. At Moreland West Medical Centre we provide the Pfizer bivalent vaccine, which covers you against circulating strains of COVID-19
